Miami,FL- written by JC Ruiz
With nothing to play for other than pride and a lower tiered bowl, it’s time for the Miami Hurricanes to move on from quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. The Hurricanes have a problem on offense and it’s the quarterback.
With rivalry week upon the Hurricanes as they get set to go against the #4 team in the nation, Florida State, it’s time one of the younger quarterbacks get thrown into the fire. They can’t perform any worse than TVD has in the past handful of games.
In his last 4 games Van Dyke has 10 interceptions, 11 for the season. He isn’t the same Tyler Van Dyke that drew national attention. He’s regressed or the team is concealing an injury. Either way, it’s time for a change.
Van Dyke has the deer in the headlights look. He’s throwing costly interceptions and making poor decisions. And in a panic he only looks for his roommate, Xavier Restrepo.
These days it looks like he only has eyes for Restrepo to the detriment of the other receivers who are bigger and faster.
Maybe it’s the plays being called by the OC. Maybe there isn’t enough of the creative or trickery element in the formations. Maybe it’s because of the QB that they’re limited.
Whatever the reason it’s time to say goodbye to Tyler Van Dyke as the starting QB for the Miami Hurricanes. He won’t be back next season and now is a great time to get either Jacurri Brown or Emory Williams experience playing in a hostile environment like Doak Campbell Stadium.
There is no hate or malice towards TVD, it’s just clear that a change needs to happen. It’s time the coaches see what everyone else sees and that is a change needs to happen.
You can’t go into FSU thinking a check down or interception every play is going to beat them. You need to stretch the field and only targeting the undersized Restrepo isn’t the answer.
Will the much needed change happen? Who knows, but you can’t keep ignoring all the warning signs and red lights flashing. You’re not playing for anything major this season, but that doesn’t mean next year you won’t be and you need the young guys to get the big game experience.
TVD time is over. Let’s see if Cristobal stays loyal to a quarterback who is costing his team wins or if he does what needs to be done.
