CORAL GABLES — With two days left before the Hurricanes’ first-round NCAA Tournament matchup with Drake, forward Norchad Omier’s status for the game has not been determined, Miami men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga said.
Omier suffered an ankle injury in the opening minutes of Miami’s ACC Tournament semifinal loss to Duke on Friday. He participated in parts of practice on Wednesday before the Hurricanes departed for their tournament game in Albany, New York.

“I don’t know if you would call stretching and shooting threes practicing,” Larrañaga said. “If we were going to have a shooting contest, he probably could do that on Friday — or a stretching contest. He’d probably be pretty good at that. Whether he can actually run and jump, we’ll have wait and see that [Thursday].”
Omier is a key piece of the Hurricanes’ tournament hopes. Omier is third on the team with 13.6 points per game, and he leads Miami with 9.7 rebounds per game.
