As We Bury Tyre Nichols We Ask WHEN IS ENOUGH GOING TO BE ENOUGH ?

Mr. Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man, died three days after being punched, kicked and pepper sprayed during a late-night traffic stop on Jan. 7, spurring sorrow and anger across the country after video of the beating was released.

Mr. Nichols’s death on Jan. 10 has been felt far beyond Memphis, It seems like we have been here before at the funerals of other Black victims of police violence. The fraternity of grieving black mothers across America continues to grow. Another sad day.

Eric Garner’s final words were “I can’t breathe.” This is all becoming just too familiar. We are all getting that same suffocating feeling.

Black people were three times more likely than white people to be killed, although they were 1.3 times more likely to be unarmed. Another crying black mother on the news. Another gut wrenching video. I only ask when is enough going to be enough ?
